The old fishing skiff bobbed and and swayed in the waters of Jeggare bay as the party made their way alongside Eel’s End. The murmur of voices on the deck, and creak of boots betrayed the sounds of the sailors above them.
Through a combination of spells, potions, and climbing skills, the party made their way onto the deck and subdued those on top. The fighting quickly brought in the rest of the guards, and sent the customers of the House of Clouds and Twin Tigers running for the docks. Reshi’s squad, with Hoodlum’s help, took up a position on the shore, and set about distracting several guards by trying to push onto Eel’s End under the pretext of “official watch business”.
Even from behind closed doors they could hear Barsavi taunt them. “Come on your pussies. Come get the girl!” and with that the doors to his throne room swung wide open. The heroes could see Barsavi, on this throne, with a hooded and bound girl in a chair in-front of him. A long, gleaming blade held at her terrified throat. No one else was visible but the tables had been overturned presenting a barricade to the group’s passage.
Aron quickly rushed in, and at the very last moment noticed the trip wire at the entrance to the room. He ducked to one side and swung down with his sword, a heavy boom swinging past him, and them he was in the room. Markus watched all this from his perch in the ship’s rigging, and saw the trip wire trigger a cage that smashed into the decking, releasing a large spider from the decks below.
What he didn’t see were the men hidden behind the overturned table as they popped up and began to shoot their crossbows at the party. Even with odds against them, and a battle on both sides, the group eventually prevailed, and pushed into the throne room itself.
Aron, blood dripping down his sides from several bolts and spear wounds, charged at Barsavi in an effort to get him away from Donna. Barsavi took this opportunity to shove the girl into Aron’s arms, and take one step backwards while reaching under the arm of this throne. Aron’s world dropped out from underneath him, and he found himself in darkness, webs clinging to every party of his body.
Kaylee’s well-targeted missiles, along with Chloe’s swinging bolas kept the goons and spiders in check as the group make their advance. Markus meanwhile, swung around the back of the ship, and came in crashing through the captain’s room window. Barsavi, surrounded and nearly alone, chugged down a potion and vanished while laughing at the group’s inability to bring him down.
As the running battle pressed down into the below-decks of Eel’s End, Aron fought for his life against Dream Spiders and some sort of monstrous chittering beast while Markus pressed down the stairs with two goons at his back. At nearly the same time, they decided that fire would be the best way to see, and to fight, in the darkness of the hold. Soon, the fires were burning out of control, while the battle still raged.
Hoodlum, having expertly killed a guard on the shitter, burst in on a gnome alchemist mixing shiver. They both paused and looked at one another before Hoodlum did what he does best: He started shooting. Even as the final battle closed with Aron and Barsavi in Barsavi’s quarters, the ship was suddenly rocked by explosions as the alchemist, strapped with bombs and chemicals was shot through and into the fires around his boiling cauldrons.
With fire rolling through the ship, and smoke choking the life from everyone present, the party barely managed to rescue Donna and escape into the waters before being burned alive. Barsavi’s corpse, nearly decapitated, went down with the ship, and it’s treasure. Meanwhile, the party struggled to shore as flights of Sable Company marines bombed the ships with heavy canvass tarps full of river water.
As they made their way to the docks, Reshi was found arguing with a Hellknight over the dilapidated drug boat, The Dragon’s Breath, that was slowly listing, and free of it’s moorings now drifting into the middle of the channel. Not seeing any problem with sinking the boat and ridding the city of a shipfull of drugs and it’s addicts, the group convinced Reshi to order it’s destruction.
Huge stone boulders launched from the Northpoint battlements made easy work of the ship. Within a few sighting shots, the ship exploded in a rain of wood splinters and debris, then quickly disappeared beneath the waters.
Cold, wet, and short of some of their heavier pieces of armor, the party was escorted to Citadel Volshyenek to explain what had happened to Kroft.
